Smart Growth and Affordable Housing

Frederick County is one of the fastest growing counties in Maryland, and we need growth that works for everyone. I focus on smart policies that create affordable homes, strong schools, and vibrant communities. Growth improves quality of life for current and future residents—not come at the expense of the values and neighborhoods we cherish.

What I Have Done

• Increased the County’s land preservation goal by 60% to 160,000 acres

• Developed a Green Infrastructure Plan for conserving natural resources

• Increased investments in parks, trails, bikeways, and agricultural programs

• Partnered with our municipalities to secure direct funding from HUD through the Community Development Block Grant program

• Used County-owned land to create new opportunities for workforce and senior housing
  

What I Will Do

• Implement our recently-released Affordable Housing Plan

• Make developers pay their fair share for new schools, roads, and infrastructure

• Continue to invest in land preservation programs

• Develop more workforce and senior housing units on County-owned land
