Fitzwater to host budget listening sessions in each County Council district

Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater is hosting a series of listening sessions on the budget for fiscal year 2025, which begins on July 1, 2024, and the Capital Improvement Program for fiscal years 2025-2030.

There will be one listening session in each of the five County Council districts:

  • District 1 (represented by Councilman Jerry Donald): Jan. 10 at 7 p.m, Middletown Fire Hall at 401 Franklin St.

  • District 2 (represented by Councilman Steve McKay): Jan. 22 at 7 p.m., New Market Volunteer Fire Hall at 76 W. Main St.

  • District 3 (represented by Councilwoman M.C. Keegan-Ayer): Jan. 11 at 7 p.m., Prospect Center at 585 Himes Ave. in Frederick.

  • District 4 (represented by Councilman Kavonté Duckett): Feb. 1 at 7 p.m., Lincoln Elementary School at 200 Madison St. in Frederick.

  • District 5 (represented by Councilman Mason Carter): Jan. 20 at 1 p.m., Walkersville High School at 81 W. Frederick St.

The public is welcome to attend any and all of the listening sessions, even those outside their own council district.

A recording of each listening session will be posted to the county website after the event. The listening session for District 3 will also be streamed live on FCG-TV.

Those who can’t attend a listening session may submit comments online through FrederickCountyMD.gov/BudgetPublicHearing.

People who require accessibility aids or services should contact the county’s Americans with Disabilities Act coordinator by calling 301-600-1110 or emailing ADA@FrederickCountyMD.gov three days prior to the listening session.

Fitzwater will host another public hearing on the county budget following the listening sessions. That hearing will take place in March.

Under the county code, Fitzwater will be required to submit her proposed budget for fiscal year 2025 to the council no later than April 15.
